Automated decision-making at Veritas

Automated decision-making refers to a decision-making process that helps draw a matter to a close and in which no person has participated. The automated decision-making at Veritas is based on the Administrative Procedure Act (434/2003) and the Act on Information Management in Public Administration (906/2019).

Veritas utilises the automated decision-making procedure in situations that do not require case-specific consideration or in which a processor has already assessed any factors that require individual consideration. Decisions issued by Veritas are founded on earnings-related pension legislation regardless of whether the decision was made using the automated decision-making procedure or by an employee of Veritas.

If the decision has been issued using the automated procedure, this will be mentioned in the decision document. The document will also contain contact information for additional related inquiries. Automated decisions always carry the right of appeal and appeal instructions will be appended to the decision document.

Transition period

According to the new legislative regulation, the implementation of a new automated procedure requires the drafting of documentation that states the division of tasks and the processing rules of the procedure itself. In addition, any new automated decision-making procedure is subject to an implementation decision before it can be taken into use. The implementation decision is published on our website.

An 18-month transition period is applicable with relation to the aforementioned requirements for any automated procedure that was in use prior to the entry into force of the new regulations on 1 May 2023. During the transition period, Veritas will prepare the required documentation and implementation decisions for automated procedures that were taken in use prior to 1 May 2023. Any possible requirements related to the implementation of a new automated decision-making procedure will be carried out as defined by law in connection with the implementation. All implementation decisions are published on this website.
