Subsistence during rehabilitation

There are two types of rehabilitation benefits: a rehabilitation allowance and rehabilitation increment. Both options are considered taxable income. For this reason, you will need to get and send a new tax card once you have received your rehabilitation decision.

While waiting for your rehabilitation to begin, you may also be entitled to rehabilitation assistance.

Rehabilitation allowance

You will receive a rehabilitation allowance to cover the period of rehabilitation. The amount of the rehabilitation allowance is the calculated disability pension increased by 33%. Therefore, the sum is equal to approximately 75% of your salary or wages.

Most forms of rehabilitation are unpaid. If, however, you receive pay during your period of rehabilitation, the rehabilitation allowance will be paid to your employer. If the rehabilitation allowance is higher than your pay, you will receive the difference between the two.

If you are planning to work part-time while receiving the rehabilitation allowance, you should inquire about your earnings limit from a Veritas rehabilitation advisor. If your earned income is more than half of your previous earnings, you are entitled to receive a partial rehabilitation allowance, the amount of which is one half of the full rehabilitation allowance.

The rehabilitation allowance is paid monthly on the first banking day of the month.

Rehabilitation increase

If you are temporarily receiving disability or partial disability pension, you cannot receive the rehabilitation allowance. Instead, your pension will be raised by a 33% rehabilitation increase for the duration of the vocational rehabilitation. The rehabilitation increase is paid monthly along with your fixed-term pension, which is referred to as a cash rehabilitation benefit.

Other compensations

We also provide compensation, for example, for travel and study expenses related to your work trial, meetings with a work coach, work coaching or studies. Sign into Veritas’ Online Service for private customers to complete a compensation application for your travel expenses.

Our compensations are in line with the Recommendation on reimbursement of vocational rehabilitation costs as issued by the Finnish Pension Alliance TELA.

Rehabilitation assistance

You can apply for rehabilitation assistance using a free-form application, if you are not entitled to any other benefit, such as a sickness or unemployment allowance. Rehabilitation assistance can be granted for a maximum of three months.
