Different online services are becoming increasingly popular. This also applies to online pension record, the use of which has been increasing every year in, for example, the Veritas online service. From the beginning of 2024, the online pension record has had a similar legal status to that of the paper pension record that is sent by post to customers.
Legal obligation to inform
Pension insurance companies have a statutory obligation to remind customers regularly about the record of their employment history in the official register and to ask them to review their own information. This obligation is carried out by providing the customer with a copy of their pension record. The pension record must be sent to the customer at intervals of at least every three years. This is done to make sure that all employment information has been submitted to the pension insurance company correctly. It is also important for the customer, as the employment information forms the basis for their pension calculation.
Online service or posted pension record
For several years now, it has been possible for customers to review the pension record either in electronic format in the online service or by checking the paper pension record sent by the pension provider. From the beginning of 2024, however, the online record achieved a more official status as checking it online is considered to be equivalent to a review of the paper copy. Previously, when calculating the three-year interval, the customer’s online review of their pension record was not taken into consideration to the current extent.
”There have been situations in previous years when a customer has recently reviewed their pension record online but we have still sent them the record in paper format, since a review of an online record was not considered to be as legally valid. This has felt unnecessary, especially since the pension record available in the online service is more extensive in content than the posted one”, explains Pirta Toivonen, Product Specialist at Veritas.
Always available and most comprehensive
You can review your online pension record using our online service at any time. The service is secure and you can log in using either your personal online banking codes or a mobile certificate. The pension record contains your entire employment history and estimates of your future pension. You can also save or print out the pension record you review online. We will make sure that customers receive review reminders at the proper intervals.
“We will continue to provide all customers with their pension records every three years, but if a customer has recently reviewed their information online, we will not send an additional copy by post. In my opinion, this is a good and responsible change”, says Toivonen.
