How to appeal against our decision
If you are not satisfied with our decision, you have 30 days to submit an application for appeal to the Pension Appeal Court, which is a redress authority operating independently from the pension companies and the Finnish Centre for Pensions.
Submitting an application for appeal
Address your application for appeal to the Pension Appeal Board, but submit it to Veritas. We can amend our decision if we agree with all your demands.
We recommend, primarily, that you complete an application for appeal using the electronic form found in Veritas’ online service. You can log in to the online service at https://veritas.fi/en/log-in/. You can also submit the application to us through the online service as a message. All messages sent using the online service are secured.
An application for appeal can also be submitted by mail, fax, e-mail, in person or by courier. Please note, for data security reasons, that the submission of confidential personal information by e-mail is done at your own risk.

- the section(s) of the decision for which you are seeking an appeal
- the specific changes you demand regarding the decision

- the name and personal identity code of the deceased if the appeal concerns survivors’ pension.
Enclose the relevant original decision you are appealing or a copy thereof, and any documentation to which you refer. Additional documentation can also be sent at a later date.
Signed appeal application
The application must be signed by you or the person who has drafted the application for appeal. If you are not personally signing the application, a power of attorney bearing your signature must be enclosed with the application. If the application for appeal has been drafted by another person on your behalf, that person must also provide their name, occupation/title and address.
An application for appeal that is completed in our online service does not need a separate signature.
Deadline for an appeal application
The application for appeal must be received by Veritas no later than thirty (30) days from the date on which you received notification of the decision.
You are considered to have received the decision seven (7) days from the dispatch date on the decision, unless otherwise specified. The dispatch date is stated on your pension decision document.
An application for appeal that is submitted electronically must be received by Veritas no later than 12 midnight on the final date of the submission period. Applications submitted by other means must be received by Veritas no later than 4 p.m. on the final date of the submission period, with the exception of 12 noon on New Year’s Eve and Maundy Thursday.
The forwarding of your appeal to the Pension Appeal Board
If we are unable to amend the original decision in a way that meets with all your demands, we will forward your appeal to the Pension Appeal Board for further processing. You will be notified of this separately.
Address change
If your application for appeal has been forwarded to the Pension Appeal Board for processing, please remember to notify both Veritas and the Pension Appeal Board of any possible address changes.
Appealing the decision of the Pension Appeal Board
If you are dissatisfied with the decision of the Pension Appeal Board, you may seek to have it changed by appealing to the Insurance Court. Detailed appeal instructions will be enclosed with the Board’s decision.
Information for those whose pension application is rejected
Your pension decision will state the reasons why we have rejected your application. However, if you have any further questions about the decision, please contact the person mentioned in the decision.
Returning to your job
If your employment relationship is still valid, discuss with your employer and/or occupational health provider whether it would be possible for you to return to your job. If it doesn’t seem possible to return to your former position, you, your doctor and your employer can work together to find out whether your tasks could be reorganised or if it would be possible for you to be transferred to a different position that would be better suited to your situation. If it is not possible to arrange work that would suit your current health situation, ask your employer for a written report regarding this issue for the employment authorities. You may be entitled to an unemployment allowance even if your employment relationship remains valid.
If you are an entrepreneur, consider reorganising your work in a way that enables you to continue working.
Rehabilitation
In connection with the application for disability pension, we always investigate your right to vocational rehabilitation, i.e. rehabilitation funded by an earnings-related pension company. If you are entitled to vocational rehabilitation, we will issue you a separate preliminary decision. The aim of vocational rehabilitation is to help you remain in working life, and it can be implemented, for example, as a work trial, work coaching or retraining. You can learn more about the possibilities for vocational rehabilitation from our rehabilitation experts. The contact details can be found in the preliminary decision.
If you are not entitled to vocational rehabilitation provided by your earnings-related pension company, you may be entitled to the vocational rehabilitation provided by Kela. More information on the Kela’s vocational rehabilitation, including work try-outs and vocational education and training, are available from Kela.
The maintenance of work ability can also be supported by medical rehabilitation. Information on medical rehabilitation is available from, for example, your occupational health provider, a local health centre or Kela. Pension companies do not provide medical rehabilitation.
Income security
Unemployment allowance
If your employment relationship has ended or the employer cannot arrange suitable work for you, please contact the employment authorities. If employment services are unable to find you suitable work, you can apply for an unemployment allowance. The unemployment allowance is applied for from Kela or an unemployment fund. Instructions on applying for unemployment allowance are available from the employment service office.
Social assistance
If you are not receiving an income from anywhere, you can apply for social assistance. Social assistance is primarily applied for from Kela and supplementary social assistance from social services in your wellbeing services county. More information on social assistance is available from Kela.
