Veritas has signed Turku’s Climate City Agreement and is committed to promoting Turku’s goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2029. The Climate City Contract is part of the EU’s mission to deliver 100 climate-neutral and smart cities by 2030.
“It was clear to us that we would join in promoting the goal of carbon neutral Turku. As a pension company, we want to raise awareness and encourage companies to take action to stop climate change through co-operation and active dialogue,” says Veritas CEO Carl Haglund.
“Our goal is for all of the properties we own to be carbon neutral by 2030. We are making good progress, as the total emissions of properties have significantly decreased thanks to renewable energy.”
Veritas shall advance the goal of turning Turku into a carbon-neutral city by 2029 with the following actions:
- We have entered into a voluntary energy efficiency agreement to improve the energy use of rental housing and commercial properties.
- We are actively working to reduce our carbon footprint. Our goal is for all of the real properties we own to be carbon neutral by 2030. To achieve this, we are committed to making significant energy investments.
- All electricity, heat and cooling used in our properties is produced by renewable energy sources or nuclear power.
- We have built solar power stations on our properties, and we will continue to look for ways to increase our production of solar power in the future.
- In connection with major renovations, we review matters that improve the energy efficiency of the property and advance responsibility through BREEAM certification.
- We take ESG factors into account in our investment operations. Our long-term target is for our investment portfolio to be aligned with the Paris Agreement. We are developing our portfolio to be carbon neutral by 2035.
