The interest on TyEL and YEL insurance contributions will change to 2.20% at the start of 2026. Interest is added to an insurance contribution amount if the due date for the invoice is postponed until a later date.
The interest on TyEL and YEL insurance contributions is currently 2.10% and 2.65%, respectively. Thus, the interest rate on TyEL insurance contributions is set to increase slightly and the interest rate on YEL contributions will decrease.
“The opposing direction of the changes is due to the difference in update cycles for TyEL and YEL rates. TyEL reference rates, which determine the insurance contribution interest rate, decreased in early 2025, but have now increased slightly again during the latter part of the year”, says Teppo Rakkolainen, Chief Actuary at Veritas.
The next adjustment of the interest rate for TyEL insurance contributions is scheduled for the beginning of July 2026. The interest rate for YEL insurance contributions will remain the same throughout the year 2026.
The insurance contribution interest is calculated on the basis of Euribor rates and the yields on eurozone benchmark bonds.
