Pension Insurance Company Veritas has published its Corporate Responsibility Report for the year 2022.

“As far as the investment markets and world economy are concerned, the year 2022 was challenging, but for Veritas, it was a year of strong growth. In terms of YEL insurance policies, the growth was fastest in the industry,” says Carl Haglund, CEO of Veritas.

Once again, the year was active in the area of responsibility.

“We continued to promote our responsibility goals in the year 2022. Responsibility is an essential part of our basic task as a pension insurance company and, therefore, it is a part of everything we do,” points out Linda Magnusson, General Counsel of Veritas.

Last year, Veritas was responsible for the earnings-related pension security of more than 120,000 people.

“We invest in personal and fast customer service to make sure our customers get the help they need in a timely and reliable manner. Last year, we paid particular attention to the training of our personnel, as responsibility is an important part of the work of all Veritas employees,” states Magnusson.

Carbon neutral investment portfolio by 2035

Veritas continued to conduct its investment activities in accordance with the company’s climate policy and managed to reduce the carbon dioxide emissions related to these activities. In 2022, listed corporate bonds were added to the climate targets in addition to equity investments.

“The weighted carbon intensity of investments reduced 19 per cent during the year. In comparison to the level of 2020, the reduction was as high as 44 per cent. The weighted carbon intensity of our investment portfolio is 24 per cent below the corresponding comparative index,” says Jussi Häkkinen, the Sustainability Manager at Veritas.

As of the beginning of June 2022, all energy used in Veritas properties has been emission-free. Thanks to renewable energy, the total emissions of the properties have reduced significantly, but achieving carbon neutrality still requires a lot of work.

“During the year, emissions were reduced by six per cent. Compared to the level of the year 2020, the carbon dioxide emissions of properties owned by Veritas have reduced as much as 75 per cent.”
